2. Policy measures

  • Setting high standards – between a locational disadvantage for European industry and the Brussels Effect
    − Cost factor for industry in the global North and a lost competitive advantage for competitors in developing countries
  • Carbon leakage in interaction with CO2 taxes, emissions trading and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)
  • Design of environmental protection, climate protection and species conservation aspects in free trade agreements
  • Other measures: e.g. deforestation initiative
