Skills for 2030 to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a global action plan to address the most pressing environmental, economic and social challenges of our time, which Austria has also committed to implementing. To achieve these goals, the development of skills or competencies (knowledge, skills and attitudes) in the population is crucial. The study looks for links between different concepts on Future Skills and the 17 SDGs. Chapter 2, “General Basic Skills,” presents and compares seven international frameworks for defining educational goals for schooling and lifelong learning. Chapter 3 “Specialized Vocational Skills” addresses the ambiguity of the skills concept in the vocational context by presenting labor market policy initiatives. Chapter 4, “Skills Initiatives in Austria,” analyzes 30 Austrian skills initiatives over the past five years and assesses their relevance for achieving the SDGs. The study results lead to a number of conclusions and options for action, which are presented in chapter 5.
